Looking for something to put in your mouth this weekend? Here are a few things we have on the books.
Arizona Great Fifty-Eight
Arizona beer fanatics, get geared up for a pretty special event. On Saturday, August 10, World of Beer in Tempe is tapping 58 beers brewed right here in the Grand Canyon State. The (extremely long) list includes beers from Mudshark, San Tan, Four Peaks, Prescott, Phoenix Ale, and more -- all available under one roof. For the complete list so far, check out the World of Beer Tempe Facebook. As far as eats, the Grilled Cheese Truck will be outside from 1 to 5:30 p.m. so don't worry, they'll have some bread around to suck up all the booze.
Arizona Crawfish Festival
On Saturday, August 10, you can dig into a Cajun crawfish boil at Bison Ranch in Overgaard. The annual event doubles as a conservation effort to remove crawfish from Arizona lakes and streams, which means some of the eats will have been caught no more than 72 hours earlier in Arizona's own bodies of water. But as with any fishing or hunting excursion, the trappers can't guarantee how much they'll bring in, so those who buy their tickets ahead of time ensure that they'll get at least three pounds of fresh crawfish. Backup orders will be overnighted from Louisiana. The event, which will take place from noon to 9 p.m., will also include live music, vendors, a beer garden, and a crawfish-trapping contest. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the Arizona Crawfish Company website.
Latin Passport Dinner: Peru
Join downtown Phoenix's Province on a culinary tour of Latin America on Saturday, August 10. This month, the restaurant is transporting eaters to Peru to showcase the country's eclectic mix of influences from places as far as China, Italy, West Africa, and Japan. The three staple ingredients of Peruvian cuisine -- corn, potatoes, and chiles -- are reflected in the special four-course menu. Diners can look forward to bass cheviche, grilled skirt steak, sweet potato, pumpkin picarrones, and more. The meal costs $35 a person and beverage pairings will be available. For reservations, call 602-429-3600 or visit the Province website.
"350 Years of Scotch" Tasting
In the words of one Ronald Burgundy, "I love scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch." And on Saturday, August 10, downtown Phoenix's Centurion Bar and Maximus will have plenty of it at its "350 Years of Scotch" tasting event. From 1:30 to 4 p.m., chef Eric Osburn will educate participants about Scotch history, types, and tastes while pouring samples of 28 different types of the drink. The event costs $200 a person and includes a meal at the end of the tastings. We're guessing you'll need it after all that scotch. Call 602-687-8796 to reserve a spot.
Game Day Deals at the Phoenix Public Market Cafe
This weekend brings our hometown team back to Chase Field for a three-game series against the Mets, and in honor of the Diamondbacks, downtown's Phoenix Public Market Cafe is offering game-day deals all summer long. When the team plays at Chase, you can catch quite a deal with any sandwich or burger on the menu and a draft beer for just $8. Choose from brews such as Four Peaks Hefeweizen, Woodchuck Pear Cider and Dave's Electric Brewing IPA, as well as sandwiches including their Del Real with peppers, cucumbers, goat cheese, and avocado or the AZ Burger with green chile and cheddar cheese.
