Our critic described the Grand Avenue neighborhood Mexican coffee shop Tres Leches Cafe as "a coffee universe where your favorite Mexican and Latin American sweet treats — we're talking churros, dulce de leche, and tres leches cake — have been ingeniously blended into your morning latte." The shop announced earlier in the week that it will now be open on Mondays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will offer a dollar off all drinks during a new 2 to 6 p.m. happy hour.
Arcadia is home to the offshoot of the original Tempe Essence Bakery. The Tempe location closed last month, but the Arcadia spot is going strong — with a bakery that's well-known for its authentic French croissants and other pastries, baked fresh every morning by chef Eugenia Theodosopoulos to the traditional French standards she was taught by her mentor, master baker Jean-Louis Clément. Despite the labor-intensive product she is putting out, Theodosopoulos has also opted to extend her hours, announcing that the shop will now be open from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., seven days a week.
