Alymelo's Sandwiches at Astor House

The food truck offers a selection of creative meatball sandwiches and sliders from a Mexican Meatball Sandwich with chorizo and creamy chipotle sauce to a Greek Meatball slider with lamb and tatziki. Wash either down with Astor House's famous gin with house-made tonic and you're kicking off the weekend just right.

Glendale Watermelon Festival

The city of Glendale hosted its first Watermelon Festival back in 1949 and this weekend the old-timey tradition - that's been suspended for the last few decades - is back. Catch the melon madness on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Murphy Park in Glendale's historic district. The event will revive many of the traditions from the original event including a beauty pageant to crown a Watermelon Queen, melon eating contests (naturally) and a beer garden. Admission is free. For more information visit the Watermelon Festival website.

Flights of Fancy Beer Sampling Party

Don, from the Misoula, MT brewery, as well as Handlebar's resident "Beer Geek" Nick will discuss craft brews and answer questions. Limited seating is available and you must be 21 or over to attend. Gina's Homemade Italian Food Rave

This Saturday Gina Burskirk of Gina's Homemade in Scottsdale invites lovers of all things artisanal and Italian to an Italian Food Rave of epic proportions. The menu for the Saturday evening's event will be kept a secret until the day of but will be a three-course feast of Italian specialty meats, handcrafted artisan cheeses, handmade pasta dishes and authentic Italian dessert. With wine pairings, of course. The dinner, which will take place from 7 to 10 p.m., costs $85 a person and seating is limited. To reserve a spot you can register online.

Movie Night at Brat Haus

Catch a classic flick - and a pretty sweet deal - this Sunday at Brat Haus in Old Town Scottsdale. For $20 you'll get a traditional house made brat, a giant boot o' beer and a small order of fries, which would be good enough a deal on its own but also includes a screening of Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Sure, it might inspire you to ditch work on Monday in favor of tromping around town with your sulky best friend and hot girl friend...but that's a risk we're willing to take.
