For $40,000, You Can Get a Martini With a Four-Karat Ruby in It

Last time we checked, the most expensive cocktail in the world cost $13,000, but it seems that fancy drinks are a lot like gas: Once prices go up, they never come back down. We guess that means we shouldn't be surprised to hear there's a $40,000 drink available these days...

Last time we checked, the most expensive cocktail in the world cost $13,000, but it seems that fancy drinks are a lot like gas: Once prices go up, they never come back down. We guess that means we shouldn't be surprised to hear there's a $40,000 drink available these days. At least you get a big fat souvenir once you've downed it.

For those who have 40K burning a hole in their pockets, consider wetting your filthy, stinkin' rich lips with the $40,000 Ruby Rose cocktail from the White Barn Inn in Kennebunk, Maine.

The drink won't be available until June 1 but will be made Hanger One Vodka, St. Germain Elderflower, fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice, pomegranate, and a spoonful of rosewater, according to the Portland Press Herald.

Of course, if you ordered it with just those ingredients it'd cost only $18. If you want the four-karat ruby to be sitting at the bottom of your glass, well, then you're looking at a $40,000 tab.

The hotel says the cocktail is a perfect way to celebrate its 40th anniversary since rubies are the stone used to mark the 40th wedding anniversary. Plus, maitre d'hotel Matthew Swinford says, the owner always called the inn a "precious gem."

Swinford told the Herald that the inn has a New York jeweler shopping for rubies that will be included in the cocktails. He said the gems were still in India but that one should be arriving in Kennebunk in about a month.

"The way we're going to present it is, it's going to be in the martini glass," he told the Herald. "And then we're going to pour the martini tableside so they see the gem, and they see the tray -- a very high-quality sterling silver tray."

If you're looking to experience a high-class cocktail closer to Arizona, you could check out the Ménage a Trois Cocktail at Las Vegas nightclub Tryst inside the Wynn. That drink will set you back $3,000 and consists of Cristal Rose champagne, Hennessey Ellipse, and 150-year-old Grand Marnier -- served with 23-karat gold flakes and liquid gold syrup, because naturally.

As a second option, we'll point out the $10,000 Ono cocktail at XS Nightclub (located at the other Steve Wynn-owned property on the strip) which comes with a pair of 18-karat gold and stingray leather Mont Blanc cuff links for dudes. Ladies get 18-karat gold Tahitian black pearl and diamond necklace.
