Think sushi can't get any more Americanized than it already is?
May I present How Do You Roll?
Founded in 2008 in Austin, Texas, by brothers Yuen and Peter Yung, the Asian fast-casual franchise allows customers to follow a line, Subway-style, and build their own sushi rolls from an array of traditional and non-traditional ingredients.
This month, the chain, which currently has seven locations in Texas, opened its first two restaurants in Arizona. In addition to a Tucson location, How Do You Roll? also has a home in Phoenix, at the rebuilt corner of 7th Avenue and McDowell (in the former Historic Antique Mall) alongside neighbors such as Five Guys, Jersey Mike's Subs, and Chipotle Mexican Grill.

Along with more familiar sushi selections such as spicy tuna and unagi, customers at How Do You Roll? can order up, via counter, non-traditional ingredients as well -- such as grilled chicken and beef -- even strawberries. There are also gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options.
Rolls cost around six to ten dollars. And there's even Japanese soda and sake to wash them down with.
"We are excited to become a part of the Phoenix community," FastCasual.com reports Yuen Yung, How Do You Roll's chief executive officer as saying. "We feel that the community will be very receptive to our concept of creating custom sushi rolls. We are eager to introduce the sushi rebellion to Phoenix."
