If you haven't made it to the Biltmore Fashion Park's latest addition UNION -- a mix of 18 small, distinctive boutiques run by local vendors -- mark your calendars to visit on Monday, December 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. for Terra Madre Day. This international event is a celebration of slow food and eating locally, and it will include an appetizer buffet, a glass of wine or other beverage, and discussions about the interesting projects, intriguing people, and very special (and delectable) foods that are crucial to the slow food movement.

The Terra Madre network was launched by Slow Food to give visibility and a voice to the small-scale farmers, breeders, fishers, and food artisans around the world. The movement's bi-annual conference was held this past October in Turin, Italy, and featured miles and miles of culinary artisans holding 100 taste workshops, dinner dates with renowned chefs, and in-depth talks. Now the spirit of the conference will be alive and thriving in Phoenix at Del Piero Trattoria at UNION, and you're invited to get in on the conversation.

Tickets are available now and cost $28 for Slow Food members or $30 for non-members. Entry includes the buffet and a beverage, and additional drinks are available for purchase. The event will be held at Queen Creek Olive Mill's restaurant, Del Piero Trattoria, located in UNION Biltmore. Keep the celebration going strong by ordering from its full menu of paninis, Arizona-style artisan pizza with toppings such as Pork Shop pepperoni, fresh mozzarella, and fresh basil, and desserts baked with locally produced olive oil.

Terra Madre Day is a worldwide celebration that will be present in numerous other countries, including Nicaragua, Mexico, Belgium, the Netherlands, Russia, the UK, Switzerland, Venezuela, Brazil, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Madagascar, China, Vietnam, Israel, and New Zealand. Buy your ticket today to be a part of this global community, and while you're at UNION, check out the many vendors to pick up locally made gifts to support the slow food artisans in our home state.
