Conveniently, Phoenix Permaculture Guild is sponsoring a class on "Wine Making Using Any Fruit" from 6:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 18. The class is taught by Lisa Miller of Lady Bug Environmentally Responsible Pest Control, and will be held at their offices in Mesa.

I caught up with Lisa a few weeks ago at the Scottsdale Old Town Farmers Market when she had a few bottles of homemade berry wine on display. "This wine is great for people with sulfite allergies," she said. While homemade fruit wines still have some sulfites, the amount is far less than the quantities found in store-bought wine.

According to Lisa, the only downside of making your own wine is that you'll have to drink it fairly quickly before it spoils. Wait...that's a downside??

Sign up for the class via Phoenix Permaculture's website. Cost is a $10 suggested donation, and space is limited.
