Chandler-ites who enjoy live music, comfort food, and craft beer might want to meet their new neighbors this week -- interestingly enough, in the form of a bar and restaurant called Nabers.

Celebrating with a grand opening at 11 a.m. this Friday, August 16, Nabers is located at 825 North 54th Street (54th Street and Ray Road, in the Chandler Pavilions and in the former home of Ernie's Restaurant & Bar).

Courtesy of Arizona State University grad and former insurance executive Dick Nenaber and wife and business woman, Pam, Nabers encourages its guests to take a break from their cell phones and stop by for a some human interaction.

"Let's go back to knowing our neighbors," the couple says, "and the good ol' days when you stopped for a friendly chat, bite to eat, cold beer, great glass of wine and a smile."

Here's what guests can expect.

Nabers will serve up familiar, comfort food fare in the form of bar bites, salads, burgers and sandwiches, and big plates. For appetizers, think a stuffed poblano chile, poutine topped with cheddar cheese sauce and roasted pork chile, and grilled "nuclear" shrimp skewers. On the sandwich side there's a shrimp po' boy and a grilled Angus sirloin "Slam" burger ("slammed on the grill to keep it juicy"). Entrees include dishes like beef stew, a pork porterhouse chop, and Nabers' "Best Crispy Crunchy Southern Fried Chicken."

A weekend brunch will be served from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Adult libations include four handles of craft and domestic beer, 20 bottles and canned beer, and 40 selections of wine. And along with the brews, Nabers will serve up live entertainment as well, with a rotating list of performers doing their thing from Wednesday to Saturday each week. Hungry after a set? Nabers has a late-night menu until midnight.

Nabers is a casual spot, featuring a large open room, bar, and sprawling patio decked out in an Americana theme.
