Phoenix nearly lost one of its gems when Edward Basha III, president and CEO of Bashas', confirmed that Sportsman's Fine Wine and Spirits would be closing its doors in August after more than 50 years of business. But then restaurateur and chef Mark Tarbell, whose namesake restaurant is located right next door, stepped in and announced he would take over the space.
He unveiled the new The Wine Store last week.

Unlike Sportsman's, The Wine Store will not be carrying any hard liquor, just beer and wine. And though Sportsman's was known for its extensive collection of more then 3,000 brands of wine, the new store will reportedly be carrying some new labels that Sportsman's didn't stock.
The store's in-house wine bar is still under construction and won't re-open until after the New Year. When it does, The Wine Store will continue to offer food including salads, sandwiches and cheese plates, though it will be a completely new menu courtesy of chef Tarbell. Expect a fuller menu with more dining and drinking options.
For more information stay turned and check out the Tarbell's Facebook page.
