Bistro 202, the cafe inside the Hotel San Carlos, downtown's historic boutique hotel, hasn't exactly been destination dining for the city set, but San Diego sisters Lan and Hue Tran are hoping to change that.

The owners of Rice Paper, the Vietnamese restaurant in midtown which opened last summer, are remodeling the former Bistro 202 space inside the hotel and plan to open a new restaurant this fall.

A call to Lan Tran for comment has yet to be returned, but in the interim, a Rice Paper manager confirmed the Trans' newest venture inside the hotel.

In addition, Brad Kreutzberg, an employee of the San Carlos Hotel, tells me that the Trans have been in the process of remodeling the restaurant for the last two or three months, and that it will open in late September or early October. He goes on to say that while traditional American fare will be served in the a.m., the new restaurant will offer a menu of French Vietnamese fusion cuisine in the afternoon and evening hours.

Stay tuned for details.
