They say living in Phoenix is like living in Chicago -- only a lot hotter. There certainly are enough Windy City transplants here. And Chicago-style pizza.
Now the Valley gets one more taste of Chicago in the form of Spinato's fifth metro Phoenix location, which opened recently in Ahwatukee.
Ken and Elaine Spinato -- who opened their first local pizzeria in 1974 in Scottsdale -- are still involved in the business, but the Ahwatukee Spinato's is in the hands of their kids, Anthony and Nicole.
The Spinatos are using olive oil from the Queen Creek Olive Mill, sausage from Chicago and salami imported from Italy. The menu's expanded to include organic and gluten-free items.
The new location is at 4848 E. Chandler Blvd., with others at 1614 E. Bell Road, Phoenix; 1219 E. Glendale, Phoenix; 227 S. Smith Road, Tempe; and 11108 N. Frank Lloyd Wright, Scottsdale.
