Enter, Edible Exchange Market.

The local and artisan food market in Scottsdale offers a variety of goods that normally would be available only at weekly farmers markets. They accept cash, but small-business owners can sign up to get in on their community-driven barter system.

Since February, Edible Exchange founder Lori Baker has been curating a collection of boutique eats including grass-fed beef, grass-fed lamb, Alaskan salmon, chicken, artisan bread, produce, dairy products (milk, butter, cheese, cheesecake, ice cream, frozen yogurt), pastries, gourmet coffee, cookies, honey, hummus, jams and jellies, kale chips, olive oils and pasta sauce, salsas, salad dressings and more.

You can find a list on vendors on the Edible Exchange Market website.

They're open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., although you can also call to schedule an appointment.

Orders for items with a shorter shelf life -- as in dairy products and fresh breads -- have to be placed on Monday and will be available for pickup on Thursdays and Fridays.

Starting this month, the market also will host a weekly food truck court on Wednesdays from 11 to 2 p.m. at 8700 East Via de Ventura in Scottsdale (the market is located inside the Barter Group offices). This week, their Food Truck Wednesday event will feature The Super Farm Food Truck serving farm fresh meals and artisan ice cream.

The Edible Exchange, founded in 2012, is an offshoot of The Barter Group, a local company that helps businesses set up exchange systems. Edible Exchange offers scrip that small business owners can use to buy foods from participating local vendors, including Torched Goodness, Luncha Libre, Orange Table restaurant and Pinnacle Farms.
