  • Kinch Teaser Video Now Up

Kinch, one of my favorite local bands (and you'll find out just how favorite when my column on the top 10 local CDs of the year drops next week) has posted a new video chronicling the recording of their upcoming record in Austin. You can click below to see the YouTube version below, or go to kinchband.com to check it out. I'm already to excited to hear what they came out of Texas with. Thanks to our man Psyko Steve for the tip. --Martin Cizmar

  • Two More AZ(ish) Bands Do Daytrotter Sessions

A couple weeks ago we brought you news that local favorites Dear and the Headlights recorded a session for Daytrotter, which is sort of Chicago's answer to The Peel Sessions, with upcoming indie acts doing four-song semi-live sets. Since then, two more bands with Arizona connections have been on, Tucson's Mostly Bears, and former Arizona band Lymbyc Systym and we've got the links.

  • Anyone Else Going to SxSW?

So we know who from Arizona is officially showcasing, and we know who's part of the Unofficial Official Arizona showcase, I Heart AZ, which New Times is co-sponsoring, but it seems like every day I'm hearing rumblings about other local bands headed to Austin in two weeks... like when I stumbled across Matthew Reveles unofficial SxSW date Tuesday.Anyone else playing Austin between March 17-22? If so, let me know. Or else.

  • SxSWers Spirit Animal, Saint Motel and Asa Random Stopping in Scottsdale Monday

Phoenix's prime place in the vast desert between Los Angeles and Austin really comes in handy this time of year, as we get tons of shows by otherwise-usually-too-hip-to-play-here acts stopping by on their way to South by Southwest. Jose Gonzolez rounded a bunch of them up for you in the paper this week, but I also wanted to mention a cool show happening at The Rogue Bar in Scottsdale Monday. Our friend Murph of So Much Silence fame is putting together a cool bill with Angelenos Spirit Animal (el

  • KJZZ's Story on I Heart AZ

Right now I'm writing up a column on last week's I Heart AZ party, a SxSW showcase our blog contributor Steve Chilton threw last week in Austin, which was definitely the highlight of my week at the festival. Radio works faster than us print folks though, so I figured I'd share this story from NPR affiliate KJZZ, which has interviews from Steve, Ian of Dear and the Headlights and the guys from Kinch.

It sounds like the premise of an especially horrific nightmare: You're on stage in front of at least 100 strangers. One of them yells out the phrase "Silly String in the Desert." And then the crowd, who all paid $15 to be entertained for the evening, expects you to use that phrase as the title of the completely improvised 30 minute musical you're about to perform for them. Now...go! Be funny! And hope that if you say something, well, not so funny, another performer is there to pick up the slac

What I do have to offer, however, is a new EP from Austin indie rockers Spoon. Got Nuffin contains only 4 tracks, yet it is their first new music since 2007's incredible Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. As well, the EP title is in keeping with lead singer Britt Daniel's insatiable need to give goof
