When it comes to wasting energy, folks living below the poverty line might not care so much about being green as saving green -- as in money. By helping people fix inefficiencies in their homes, both a personal and community need is met. That's the idea behind a state program getting $23 million in federal assistance.
The amount each household can receive is being pushed up from $2,500 to $6,500. That seems like more than enough to buy someone a better air conditioner.
