  • Jordin Sparks, Other Phoenix Music Artists Garner Grammy Nominations

Glendale resident and American Idol winner Jordin Sparks has received a Grammy nomination for her song "No Air." The song, nominated for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals, is a duet with R&B singer Chris Brown. It's also the first of two (thus far) top 10 Billboard hits for Sparks -- the other being "Tattoo." Both songs are from her self-titled debut album, released this year on Jive Records.

  • Cardinals' Game Day Concerts: A Look Back at the Season

For someone like me, who is an Arizona Cardinals season ticket holder, this season has far exceeding any expectations I had for the team heading into September. Not to toot my horn or anything, but after watching the Cardinals dismantle the playoff-caliber Miami Dolphins in the home opener, I said that the Cards will make the playoffs, hardly expecting them to catch lightning in a bottle and make it all the way to Tampa for the Super Bowl. What does any of this have to do with music? Well, Card

We recently ran across this list of the "Top Ten All-Time Arizona Musicians" from Arizona Premiere Living. Some of the choices are obvious: Meat Puppets, Jimmy Eat World, Jordin Sparks, Gin Blossoms, Alice Cooper, and Linda Ronstadt almost always make the "top" lists of Arizona musicians.

  • 2009 NBA All-Star Game: Defense (For a Change), Jumpshots, and Forced Drama

Kobe and Shaq are once again BFF. Awwww. The only thing the sports media love more than a good feud is a half-assed gesture to end it under meaningless circumstances. So it was that Kobe and Shaq were forced to awkwardly hoist a trophy together at the 2009 NBA All-Star game, just as they did back when they were three-time champions together, long before Shaq dissed Kobe in every medium available, including a famous freestyle in which the big man repeatedly rapped, "Kobe, tell me how my as

  • Concert Calendar for This Weekend: Jordin Sparks, Digital Summer, Nappy Roots, The Game, and More

The Nappy Roots are scheduled to perform on Friday at Club Red in Tempe. Now that the chill of winter is starting to subside (temps are supposed to get into the high 70s) you've got little excuse to stay cooped up inside your domicile this weekend. Why not book it to the ongoing Renaissance Festival, or perhaps take a splendid moonlight hike? Better yet, spend your weekend checking out any of the numerous concerts and music scheduled to happen tonight through Sunday. Practically every major

  • Just Announced: Lucero, St. Vincent, George Jones

Lucero is coming to town in May. A lot of big indie shows -- but not big, big shows -- in last week's concert announcements. Lucero, Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears are coming to Rythm Room in May, as are Margot & the Nuclear So and So's. St. Vincent plays Modified on Sunday, May 31, which is right about when it'll be starting to get super hot in there. Meanwhile some old fellas (George Jones, Kenny G., Joe Cocker) are also coming to town. Read on for full listings.

  • Larry Fitzgerald, Jordin Sparks at Minnesota Fundraiser in Memory of Fitzgerald's Mom

CJ/Minneapolis Star-TribuneArizona Cardinals' star wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald Jr. was in his home state last week for a memorial fundraiser with family and friends, including Jordin Sparks (above). The event at the Metropolitan Club Ball Room in Golden Valley, Minnesota, was to raise money for breast cancer in the name of Fitzgerald's late mother, Carol. She died of the disease in 2003. • The End of an Era: Gokey and His Glasses Go Home

Don't cry, Gokey. You always have a future as a Lenscrafters model...I will be the first to admit that as excited as I am about last night's Idol results, I am also really shocked (as are a lot of other people, apparently). I think most people--whether they were Gokey fans or not--thought his large hausfrau fan base would keep him safe in the hopes that if he won, he would do dirty things to them with his glasses. How quickly the Idol tables turn. Kris Allen gave Gokey a run for his money with hi

Mee-yow!So, my American Idol-watching comrades, after several months (it feels longer though, doesn't it?) of the hard work and dedication it takes to be glued to our television sets for at least three hours every week, we finally get the proverbial money shot: Adam Lambert vs. Kris Allen, or, as Seacrest referred to it, guy-next-door vs. guyliner.
