  • Show Announcements: Willie Nelson, Staind, Chris Isaak, Katy Perry

There were a massive amount of upcoming shows announced this week, including Willie Nelson on the road again and possibly three of the four worst nu metal bands of all time (Staind, Papa Roach, Hoobastank) on a single stage… with the insufferable Adam Carolla. Crooner Chris Isaak and Strokes’ drummer Fabrizio Moretti will also be in town with his side project, Little Joy. Katy Perry will be in town to do a solo show hot on the heels of her Phooson set and Woodstock veteran Richie Havens is coming.

  • Britney Spears Coming To Glendale on April 24

We honestly can't imagine too many people care at this point, but we've been wrong before, so, in case you do, that chick who had Kevin Federline's children is coming to Jobing.com Arena on April 24. Britney Spears is back with her "The Circus Starring Britney Spears 2009 Tour" - her first arena tour in five years. Her new album, Circus, came out yesterday. She sure has been productive lately, but I guess it's not like she's got children to worry about, thanks to our wise and benevolent court

  • Paula Abdul Hosting Phooson Tonight

So, if there's one thing I thought Phooson, tonight's popped up show at Cricket was missing, it was some B-list hosting talent. Luckily, Johnjay and Rich are bringing in the big guns: Paul Abdul. The American Idol hostess will join the disc jocks on stage at Cricket Pavillion to introduce Rihanna, Fall Out Boy, Katy Perry, Jesse McCartney, Varsity Fanclub, Tokio Hotel, and the Pussycat Dolls. Here's hoping she struggles to find a nice way to discuss the bad performances before just giving up, cl

  • Phooson: Bathrooms and Beers

As expected, it's kind of a kiddish and heavily female crowd out here at Phooson. The line for the little girl's room was halfway to the parking lot, while guys like me had a nice short wait. The beer line, on the other hand was nice and short for everyone.  Katy Perry just took the stage dressed as a slutty Mrs. Claus, declaring, "I look ridiculous" while her band (dressed as elves) played her on with "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." This should be interesting. -- Martin Cizmar

  • Phooson: Katy Perry's Better With a Backing Track

So Katy Perry just finished her set without playing "Ur So Gay" which is pretty sad. She also played "I Kissed A Girl" with her backing band, which normally would be pretty cool, but they were surprisingly bad for a group of professional musicians. She sounded much better with a backing track on "Hot N Cold." Tokio Hotel is on now, setting the pubescent girls in to a high-pitched frenzy with their thoroughly average brand of post alt radio rock and fashionable women's clothes. -- Martin Cizmar

So you missed last night's Phooson 2008? No worries. We've got you covered with a few concert highlights from Katy Perry, Tokyo Hotel, Fallout Boy and The Pussycat Dolls. It seems Rihanna was a bit camera shy when it came to video unfortunately. Don't ask us why, we think she looked great on stage. -- Jonathan McNamara

  • Ready, Set, Go! It's Time To... Move My Lips and Pretend I'm Singing

So I've been getting raked over the coals by Tokio Hotel fans over the last few days because I wrote a blog pointing out that, well, it's kinda weird for teenage girls to be attracted to a guy who looks a lot like them. I asked why, I got a few thoughtful (and a lot of crazy) replies. Sample: YOU EAT SHIT. tokio hotel is cool, and you smell like smelly cattle. bill doesnt look like Boy George. you do! Martin Cizmar is GAY! (if that is you) your a Asshole. Children... so precious.ANYWAY, wi

  • The Year in Music: 2008's Top Ten Pop Songs

By Annie ZaleskiPop music often gets a bad rap for being disposable or vapid, and in many cases that's true. (Katy Perry, Danity Kane and the Pussycat Dolls, step right up!) But every year, a few irresistible bits of innovative ear candy rocket up the charts and seep into our subconscious. The following ten singles saturated the Top 40 -- or what passes for hit-oriented radio in this topsy-turvy musical climate -- while proving that accessibility doesn't necessarily preclude creativity. • The Worst Lyrics of 2008: NCAA-Style Showdown

And now it's time for the "I love you like a fat kid loves cake" memorial Worst Lyrics of 2008, March Madness-style tournament, this year a terrifying mélange of appalling oral-sex requests, bargain-bin philosophies, grammatical atrocities, and cringe-inducing pillow talk. To elevate the drama, I provided a trusted colleague with the 16 artists who qualified and had him assign seeds--Lil Wayne you expect to go deep into a showdown like this, but Lucinda Williams? • Hitsville: The Year in Music, by the Numbers

By Randall Roberts You don't need a half-wit music critic to tell you it's been a remarkable year for America, one historians will be discussing and researching for centuries to come. War, financial collapse, politics, technology: All have been dinner-table topics for many Americans. Racial barriers in 2008 were demolished by a Midwestern black man, and gender barriers were hurdled by an Arkansan and an Alaskan.Democracy has a few awesome new dance moves rolling into the Obama presidency, and i

  • Katy Perry Is One of the Girls Just as Much as Boys

Luke HolwerdaSee more shots from her concert in our Katy Perry slide show. Katy Perry is hot! Well, she's cute and she's hot. This seemed to be the general consensus from the sold-out audience at Tempe's Marquee Theatre on Tuesday. Perry, who wore a flashy gold dress and looked like she should be adorned on the top of a cake of some sort, worked the crowd with her pinup good looks and wide-eyed demeanor throughout her nearly 90-minute set. The audience, comprising teens, tweens, parents and ev

  • The End of an Era: Gokey and His Glasses Go Home

Don't cry, Gokey. You always have a future as a Lenscrafters model...I will be the first to admit that as excited as I am about last night's Idol results, I am also really shocked (as are a lot of other people, apparently). I think most people--whether they were Gokey fans or not--thought his large hausfrau fan base would keep him safe in the hopes that if he won, he would do dirty things to them with his glasses. How quickly the Idol tables turn.
