Carol Rosegg Doug Thompson, Jenny Gulley and Jamie Jackson: Three actors who are not cast members of the tour that's stopping here. But you get the idea.Kansas City-based Theater League presents in just seven U.S. cities, so it's always felt kind of like Phoenix's own little Shubert Organization. Although TL does produce shows itself, its Passport to Broadway series snags national road companies of hot musicals from the tour producers (for example, the sparkling Mamma Mia! that played a r

  • Monsters of Folk Coming To Phoenix Oct. 21

Seems like it's been a long time since a any Phoenix promoter felt like shelling out the big bucks it takes to rent the gorgeous Orpheum Theatre downtown for a show. It appears the inaugural tour by Monsters of Folk, an ironically-named side project featuring My Morning Jacket's Jim James, Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis, and singer/songwriter M. Ward, is worth it.Monsters of Folk is scheduled to play the theater on Oct. 21. Should be a great night.

Arizona-dwelling Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan's side project, Puscifier, has announced fall tour dates, including two shows at Phoenix's stunning Orpheum Theatre. The show, which actually allows you to see Maynard, unlike Tool's concerts, where he stands on the back of the stage, has been explained as, "a performance art spectacle equal parts comedy cabaret show, guerrilla theater, lysergic animation sequences, Krautrock-inspired metallic jams and leering lunacy of various stripes."Soun
