  • Joel McHale at Celebrity Theater

By P.J. Standlee Joel McHale is the ridiculous, scathing, and audacious joker among the equally ridiculous and licentious celebrity royalty that populate our most beloved and idiotic TV programs. And it’s obvious to everyone who saw McHale on Friday night at the Celebrity Theatre that McHale is not only good at sharpshooting hapless celebrities, we love to watch him do it. “We love to make fun of celebrities on The Soup,” McHale said about his chatty and gossipy rundown of celebrity obn

  • Phooson: Pussycat Dolls Are Such Bad Lip-Synchers

So i've seen some bad lip-synchers, but the Pussycat Dolls pretty much take the cake. At times none of them were even trying to hold a mic near their face. At one point one of the Dolls introduced them as a dancing-singing group and the description was apt, as they did have some moves. Paula Abdul introduced the group (two are from the 602, it seems) and she's out here again before Fallout Boy being subjected to the humilation of dancing to "Straight Up" while some small town radio jock pressure

  • American Idol Gets All Southwest On Your Ass

So last night marked the return of the out-of-control musical delusionfest known as American Idol. And the first episode of the eighth season featured summer auditions that took place RIGHT HERE IN PHOENIX!!! Oh my God, the excitement was just too much! How exciting was it going to be to see watch an episode of AI featuring people I might bump into buying seems-like-a-good-idea-at-the-time drunken burritos at Filibertos! The jubilation quickly faded, however, after it became apparent that at l

  • Kansas City American Idol Auditions Have Good, Bad and Ugly

Tears, screaming and screeches - oh my! Wednesday's American Idol auditions, which were held in Kansas City, home of last season's Idol winner David Cook, had all of these things along with dozens of snarky comments from judge Simon Cowell. While one of our favorite moments took place in the beginning of the show when Cowell told Idol hopeful Chelsea Marquardt that she sounded "like a cat jumping off the Empire State Building and the sound it would make before it hit the floor," many more follo

  • Idol's Louisville Auditions Provide Viewers With Job Ideas

So, last night, American Idol took its tone-deaf dog-and-pony show to Louisville, Kentucky. But, really, does it matter where we were? Louisville was the same as Phoenix, which was the same as San Francisco, which we all know is going to be just like Tuesday's show in Jacksonville. There's the horrible singing, there's the amazing singing, there are the horrible outfits, the infighting among judges, and the heartwarming stories of auditioners who save puppies from burning buildings and/or wor

  • Cover Your Ears, American Idol Singers on the Loose!

Casey Carlson: Just one night away from going back to making bubble tea for good. After a horrible, seizure-inducing Hollywood Week, I was actually sort of excited to get this show on the road and hear the offerings of The Best Singers in All the Land, as decreed by the "experts." I should have known better than to be optimistic. Have I learned nothing over the course of eight seasons? Two hours and 12 singers later, all I wanted to do was lie down, put a cold compress on my head, and call my mom

While he doesn't dress in monk-like robes (like Qui-Gon Jinn) or offer advice in backwards fashion (à la Yoda), Rob Wegner is most definitely served as a Jedi Master to DJs across the PHX for most of the last decade. He's taught many a Padawan how to spin up a song in that time, including MCB and J. Alan over at Axis/Radius, Dirty Pretty's Jon Amaral, and Adrian Diaz at Sandbar). In 2001, Wegner launched a class dedicated to the ins and outs of the DJ biz over at Scottsdale Community College,
