  • Arty Girl: Go to PAM for First Friday

"Grain Series" by Richard LermanOh, First Friday...while I enjoy writing about the stuff on Roosevelt Row and Grand Ave, sometimes it just feels like the easy way out. That's why I like to take you a little bit off the beaten path.I guess I'm just a girl who likes to keep her options open.So one extra option for tonight is the Phoenix Art Museum which is free to the public from 6-10 p.m. Other than their permanent collection and other current shows, they've got a few works up right now that have

By Lilia Menconi Well? Have you? Answer me!!!! So I throw around the words "juried exhibition" a lot. And, every time I use it, my silly imagination runs with the term. I can't help it. I picture a big scary panel of judges sitting in a dim room. A bright spotlight blasts down on an innocent little painting sitting across from the row of hypercritical eyes. This poor painting is sweating, worrying, waiting for its ultimate judgment and I feel sorry for it. That's ridiculous, I know. Painting

Joseph Stella's "Flowers, Italy" at the Phoenix Art Museum. While reading this blog, please keep these catchphrases in mind:"Fake it 'til you make it.""Imitation is the highest form of flattery.""Originality is overrated.""Your living room could use some decorating."Okay, I added that last one. I'm just trying to show that something like Phoenix Art Museum's Archival Print Collection can work to your benefit.

See how watercolor works like "Swimming in the Blue" are made on Saturday.Once again, I find myself in a position where there's a darn good Third Friday Art Walk to blog about, but I'd rather blog about an event on Saturday. Hmmm, what to do...Ok, here's the plan: I'll throw down some links to some sweet stuff happening tonight that you can click to your heart's content and then I'll explain Saturday's artist demonstration at the Phoenix Art Museum after the jump. So, if you're hitting downtown P

  • Arty Girl: Phoenix Art Museum Tonight

By Carolyn Castano, courtesy of Phoenix art MuseumTonight, you should do what I did a week ago. Really, you should. Because I went to the Phoenix Art Museum to see "Phantom Sightings: Art After the Chicano Movement".I have to say, I loved this show. And while I won't get too heavy-duty on the criticism here, there are just a few pieces I really want to talk about.
