  • Economy Kills Florida Music Festival . . . On an Unrelated Note, Has Anyone Seen a Lineup for Tempe Music Fest?

Langerado, an annual music festival in Miami, has announced it's canceling its 2009 event because of sluggish ticket sales. The festival, which has been going since 2003, had problems beyond the economy, having moved from a rural Indian reservation where a legendary Phish show happened to downtown and booking indie acts like Black Kids, Death Cab for Cutie, and Ra Ra Riot rather than jam bands. Langerado somehow got my personal e-mail and inundated me with spam. So, on the plus side, that shoul

  • Flaming Lips, Matisyahu Headlining McDowell Mountain Music Festival

On Friday, Tempe Music Festival announced a pretty uninspired lineup (Kid Rock, Three Doors Down) for April 3 and 4 at Tempe Beach Park. It was better than I was expecting (ahem, nothing) but it certainly didn't pack the punch of last year's event, headlined by Fergie and My Chemical Romance.Turns out, festival season has been saved by McDowell Mountain Music Festival, which has made a major move -- and is position itself to be the spring music festival in Arizona -- with a much, much hipper li

  • Everybody Be Calm: Flaming Lips ARE Coming to McDowell Mountain Music Festival

I got an e-mail from our main man Murph over at So Much Silence today expressing some concern The Flaming Lips were not going to be at McDowell Mountain Music Festival after all, despite what I reported Sunday. Don't worry folks, while Murph is right that they aren't listed on the lineup right now publicist Michelle Conery tells me they are still on the bill. Turns out MMMF wasn't planning to announce the Lips quite yet, but the news got leaked, so they'll confirm it, though they're still gettin

Jonathan McNamaraSee more shots of The Flaming Lips in our slide show. Major labels get a lot of flack. Whether it's because they supposedly put out nothing but overly-commercialized crap, or because they're suing computer-using kids in a vain effort to salvage their busted business model, it's rare to hear anyone say anything nice about the Big Four. That's why Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne snagged my attention Saturday night when he made offhanded mention of his band's nearly two decades w
