  • Young Jeezy and Jay-Z: "My President Is Black" (Live)

I'm not sure I've seen anything that sums up the raucous atmosphere surrounding the Obama inauguration better than this live video for "My President is Black" with Young Jeezy and Jay-Z (a.k.a. Old Jeezy), which I came across over on The Village Voice's music blog, Sound of the City. If anything, it sure beats the hell out of that insufferable Will.i.am video that -- I swear it -- almost made me vote for McCain. On the jump.

  • Lil Wayne Very Late, Very Predictable at US Airways Center

Robert Brandon Martinez Things I witnessed while waiting nearly two hours for Lil Wayne to perform at US Airways Center on Wednesday night: An impromptu routine by all of opener T-Pain's assortment of dancers, including two midgets, a fire-eating contortionist, two dudes with their faces painted like Juggalos and two of (what appeared to be) Gwen Stefani's former harajuku girls. T-Pain saying, "I'm gonna tell y'all the truth, promise y'all won't get mad.... The reason my fat ass is still up here

  • Looking for the Valley's Biggest Super Bowl Parties? We've Got the Lowdown

These ladies definitely know how to celebrate Super Bowl Sunday in style. Do you? Less than 48 hours remain until Kurt Warner and the rest of the Arizona Cardinals become either champs or chumps. As Steve Jansen wrote earlier today over on our Valley Fever blog, Kurt and the boys in red have a golden opportunity to not only redeem the enitre Cardinals franchise for stinking up Phoenix for the past 20 years, they also can reward our town with it's second major sports championship. (The Rattlers

  • Hip-Hop Artists Invade the PHX During All-Star Weekend

Snoop Dogg is scheduled to appear at Scottsdale nightspots Club Rain and Barcelona during All-Star Weekend. If we learned anything from the hullabaloo over last year's Super Bowl in Glendale, it's that the actual sporting event is almost secondary to the slew of celebrations that take place. It seems like every major hip-hop and R&B artist was in town for both the big game and the celebrity-laden festivities. And it's turning out to be the case with next weekend's All-Star Game in downto

  • The Lowdown on All-Star Weekend's Biggest Parties

Nelly will attempt to fill Chris Brown's shoes during this weekend's All-Star festivities. The Valley's about to get a little "derrty." Universal Records rapper Nelly is doing the Nix's hip-hop fans a solid by filling in at the two gigs that Chris Brown abandoned eartlier this week due to the recent legal problem's the R&B singer has become embroiled in. As a result, tomorrow night's party at the Corona Ranch in Laveen and Saturday night's shindig at Club Rain (both of which were scheduled

  • 2009 NBA All-Star Game: Defense (For a Change), Jumpshots, and Forced Drama

Kobe and Shaq are once again BFF. Awwww. The only thing the sports media love more than a good feud is a half-assed gesture to end it under meaningless circumstances. So it was that Kobe and Shaq were forced to awkwardly hoist a trophy together at the 2009 NBA All-Star game, just as they did back when they were three-time champions together, long before Shaq dissed Kobe in every medium available, including a famous freestyle in which the big man repeatedly rapped, "Kobe, tell me how my as

  • Swine Flu Taking Its Toll on Concerts

Mexico City, as well as the rest of the country, has seen a recent trend of canceled concerts due to swine flu concernsCan't get enough swine flu coverage? Thought maybe reading a music blog would offer you an opportunity to get away from the media blitz surrounding the fervor? Well, such is the nature of the beast that the swine flu has now affected concerts, forcing cancellations all across Mexico and even a few select shows in the U.S. Many shows in Mexico have seen their dates either be canc

  • Incoming: Lil Wayne, Daughtry, Cherry Poppin Daddies

Robert Brandon MartinezLast time Lil Wayne came to town he was two hours late to the stage, causing a chain reaction of show-stalling shenanigans that involved the opener, T-Pain, coming back on stage wearing pajamas and a scarf to dance in a futile effort to quell the crowd. None of it worked and, as things wore on, the crowd chanted "this is bullshit" and booed Weezy who was, apparently, stuck at a border checkpoint. After all that, maybe you'd expect to see something else leading this week's s
