Number 13: Garlic dip at Pita Jungle
Fourteen years ago, I spent a few weeks in Greece on a family vacation, and I fell in love with a dish called skorthalia, a super garlicky sort of chilled mashed potato creation that I'd scoop up with pita and wash down with a frappe (iced coffee), or maybe even some ouzo. I'm sure I reeked of garlic after eating it almost daily, but who cares? Cute Greek boys still wanted to flirt with me.
Then I moved to Phoenix, and quickly became a regular Pita Jungle. Considering how big the menu is, it was pure luck that I somehow identified the "garlic dip" as pretty much that same tangy, garlic-infused treat that I discovered years before.
I can hardly come here without ordering it -- I will spoil my appetite for anything else just to fill up on it.
If you consider yourself a garlic freak, you need to try it. Ideally, you'll bring a garlic-loving friend to share it with you, so you'll neutralize each other. Vampires, beware!
