Barrio Urbano Dinner Friday, January 16
As of this week Barrio Urbano, located at The Yard in Phoenix, is open for dinner and serving a concise menu of appetizers and entrees. The selection includes dishes such as Toritos de Jaiba made with lump crab and goat and Oaxaca cheeses ($12); Posole Verde ($8); and Enchiladas Urbanas made with Oaxaca, Monteray, and Jack cheeses, spinach saute, and tomatillo jojoque creama ($18). This weekend the special will be Costilla Adobada, a dish that features short braised rib with an adobada-honey sauce ($29). This newest restaurant to come from chef Silvana Salcido Esparza also serves breakfast starting at 7 a.m. everyday and offers a full bar.
Bike, Lunch and Learn at Taggia Saturday, January 17
This weekend the Bike, Lunch, and Learn series will return to Taggia in Scottsdale. Starting this Saturday and every third Saturday through of every month through April, the resort welcomes guests to join chef Massimo De Francesca on a bike ride to the Old Town Farmers Market where they'll shop for fresh produce and other food items. Back at the resort De Francesca will lead an interactive cooing class while using the ingredients to cook a three course meal that will be paired with Arizona wine. The farmers market trip, class, and meal costs $75 per person. Reservations are required and space is limited. Call 480-424-6095.

Mixology Class: American Whiskey Sunday, January 18
We can't imagine a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than sipping whiskey and hanging out at the beautiful Hermosa Inn and with the resort bar's Mixology Class this weekend you can do just that. The two-hour course will be guided by Last Drop's Spirit Guide Travis Nass and will be a crash course on American whiskey-based cocktails -- attendees will learn everything from history and styles of liquor to various brands and recipes. Guests get a taste of two cocktails, as well as time for questions and answers since the event is limited to 10 people.
