Many may be familiar with chef Justin Beckett's seasonal American food at his restaurant, Beckett's Table, in east Phoenix, but fewer may know about the establishment's stellar wine selection -- until now.
In its August issue, "World's Best Wine Lists," Wine Spectator magazine gives a nod to Beckett's Table, giving the restaurant (and 2,841 others) its entry-level Award of Excellence. The award is given based on a restaurant's ability to "streamline quality and value in compact yet smart wine lists."
There's also a shout-out for Arizona wine.

"Beckett's Table in Phoenix, which opened in late 2010, is a benchmark for the category. Though its list holds just over 100 wines, it's a standout selection. And the restaurant offers more than half of them by the glass or pichet (375ml), including Clos de Nouys Vouvray Sec 2009 (90 points on the Wine Spectator 100-point scale; $13 a glass) and Edmeades Zinfandel Mendocino County 2009 (88 points; $10 a glass). By the bottle, the list offers mostly premium buys such as Mocali Brunello di Montalcino 2006 (93; $80 on the list). Locavores will find a solid selection from Arizona, anchored by the heady Keeling Schaefer Syrah Cochise County Three Sisters 2009 (89; $38)."
