Restaurant Crawl: Arcadia Crewz Derby Day The Kentucky Derby, along with being the best-known national horse race, also involves a tradition of eating and drinking all day long. It just makes sense: The race only lasts two minutes, but the spectator aspect of the sport goes on for hours. This Saturday, May 4, join in on the fun at an event dubbed Arcadia Crewz. For $30, riders can graze at three restaurants: s.e.e.d. Café, O.H.S.O. Eatery & Nanobrewery, and Kitchen 56. Bikes are the steed of choice for this restaurant crawl, and there will be a parking lot party in the Madison Improvement Club for cyclists before the ride begins. Then each stop will offer two or three appetizers along with discounted drinks. Riders can meet for the pre-ride party beginning at 9 a.m.; the crawl begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m.
Bao Bing: A Cool and Fruity Asian Treat Snoh Ice Shavery opens in Central Phoenix on Saturday, and it's expected to gain a big following fast. With temperatures dangerously close to 100 degrees, there's no better time to get addicted to an exotic frozen dessert. Snoh specializes in bao bing, a treat made of finely shaved ice, fresh fruit, flavored syrup, and condensed milk. There are six flavors to choose from, including strawberry, Thai tea, and taro, which can be customized with crazy toppings such as mocha balls, lychee, and -- to please Western palates -- crushed Oreos. The final step is to pick a glaze, whether familiar like caramel or foreign like black sesame.

Cake Decorating Class at 21 Cakes This Sunday, amateur bakers have the opportunity to learn from the pros at 21 Cakes in Scottsdale. Owner Linda Schneider and pastry chef Cisco Zazueta will be teaching a three-hour cake baking and decorating class at 1 p.m. And on Monday, May 6, macaron addicts can learn how to craft the delicate sandwich cookies at an evening class, beginning at 6:30 p.m. These classes include hands-on experience with creating a six-inch cake or Parisian-style macarons. Students will leave with an understanding of the science as well as the art of baking - and with take-away goodies to enjoy the fruits of their labor at home.
