Fogon Opens Today in Scottsdale (Spoiler Alert: Benihana-Style Mexican Cuisine)
A new dining spot, Fogon, a Mexican Eatery, will open its doors today. The restaurant is located at 7001 N. Scottsdale Road, inside the Scottsdale Seville shopping complex.
Fogon will offer new way of experiencing Mexican food to the table, one you might already associate with Japanese teppanyaki and onion ring volcanoes. That's right, the restaurant will be doing Benihana-style Mexican fare: Your entree will be prepared at custom grill stations located throughout the dining room.
The restaurant comes courtesy of first-time restauranteur Daniel Correa, who is originally from Mexico City. The idea for Fogon, which translates to"cooking with charcoal," was to bring the taste of authentic Mexican eating (think, food cooked on an al fresco grill) to a more elevated setting.
The food, according to General Manager Jared Flowers, will be traditional Mexican as opposed to fusion cuisine, with many of the recipes borrowed from Correa's grandmothers and great-grandmothers.
The restaurant's lunch menu includes entrees such as tacos, enchiladas, and a torta, while dinner options include fajitas a la parilla, enchiladas, mole poblano, and pescado al vapor. Entrees will be prepared on one of seven grill stations in the restaurant's dining room.
On the outdoor patio and bar, there will be separate tapas menu available including a ceviche toastada, chile rellenos, Mexican street corn, and nachos chidos.
Drink options will include kegged wines, beers on-tap, and signature tequilas and margaritas.
The space will channel a cozy vibe with artwork from Mexico including hand painted tile murals from artist Diego Rivera. Other design features include a community table and a custom fire pit on the spacious patio.
