7: For the Culinary Historian: A Cookbook Celebrating Arizona's Centennial

In February 1912, Arizona was the last contiguous state to join the United States, which means next year we celebrate our 100th anniversary. So, when do we eat?

Not until February, officially. But for those looking for the perfect pre-order gift on our state's 100 year history of taste makers, restaurants, and flavors, there's 100 Years, 100 Chefs, 100 Recipes.

Designated as an official Arizona Centennial Legacy Project by the Arizona Historical Advisory Commission (AHAC), the cookbook is a collection of recipes from Arizona's James Beard Award-winning chefs, mom-and-pop cooks, old-time favorite restaurants, and passionate professionals.

And it's put together by some folks you may have heard of.

Marshall Trimble, Arizona's unofficial historian, will introduce each region of Arizona with a bit of history about the cities, economy, businesses, agriculture, gastronomical achievements, and diverse landscape of each area.

At the helm of composing the cookbook are Nikki Buchanan, a freelance writer for Arizona Highways; Michelle Laudig, contributing editor at Edible Phoenix and former food critic for New Times; and Dawson Fearnow, freelance writer for Scottsdale CVB, Phoenix Magazine, and New Times.

100 Years, 100 Chefs, 100 Recipes is available online here, with advance copies available for purchase at $22.95 plus tax and shipping. Proceeds will be donated to food banks across Arizona.
