- Over Easy, Tempe
In late June chef and restaurateur Aaron May opened a new location of his popular breakfast restaurant Over Easy. Located at The Yard at Farmer Arts District in Tempe, the restaurant features about 80 seats inside at 2,200-square-foot space located across from The Madison Improvement Club.
- Born & Glazed, Scottsdale
Last month Nicholas Campisano and Joshua James, both of Clever Koi, opened a separate concert called Born & Glazed in south Scottsdale. The doughnut shop offers a small menu of handmade, freshly baked doughnut including a cactus-shaped prickly pear glazed doughnut and cinnamon sugar dusted doughnut holes.
- Holy Spirits Bar and Restaurant, Scottsdale
Located in Old Town Scottsdale, this restaurant and bar serves a menu of internationally-inspired small plates, beer, wine, and cocktails.
- 8-Bit Brewery, Avondale
This nostalgically-themed microbrewery is the first to come to the West Valley suburb of Avondale. In addition to a small selection of brews with names such as “Hopsassins Creed” IPA and “Legend of Zymur” double IPA, the brewery offers taps are topped with vintage controllers.
- Coconut's Fish Cafe, Scottsdale
In mid-June a second Arizona location of this Maui-based restaurant opened at 7366 East Shea Boulevard in North Scottsdale. Coconut's Fish Cafe specializes in Mahi Mahi and Ono fish tacos and grilled fish burgers.
- Ahi Mahi Fish Grill, Scottsdale
Located at 2805 North Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale, this seafood-focused restaurant serves healthy California and East Asian-inspired cuisine.
- Frasher's Smokehouse, Phoenix
Last month we said good-bye to Scottsdale's Frasher's Steakhouse, but already owner George Frasher has opened a new restaurant, Frasher's Smokehouse in Arcadia. Located at 3222 East Indian School Road, the restaurant serves barbecued meats by the pound including burnt ends, brisket, and ribs.
- Jack's Place, Scottsdale
This new Old Town Scottsdale pub serves everything from salads and sandwiches to street tacos and burgers. It's located at 6830 East 5th Avenue.
- Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers, Scottsdale
The fourth location of Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers opened early last month at near the intersection of Frank Lloyd Wright and Shea Boulevard in north Scottsdale. As at the other locations you can expect a lengthy list of 1/2 pound burgers, as well as beer, wine, and cocktails. The new restaurant is located at 10767 North 116th Street.
- The Counter, Phoenix
California-based build-your-own-burger restaurant, The Counter, opened its first Arizona location in June at 50 North Central Avenue, on the corner of Adams and Central. The restaurant offers pre-designed burgers as well as the option to build your own. Diners can also expect cocktails, craft beer, wine, and adult spiked milkshakes.
- La Pizzetta, Scottsdale
Brought to north Scottsdale by Classic Cooking Academy director Pascal Dionot and his wife, Donna, this Italian restaurant serves salads, starters, and pizzas — though the pizzas certainly star and are made with imported Italian flour in a Valoriani pizza oven. The restaurant can be found at 10411 E. McDowell Mountain Ranch Road in Scottsdale.
- Wren House Brewing Company (formerly Westward Brewing Co.), Phoenix
At the last minute and after months of preparation to open, the guys behind Westward Brewing Co. had to change the name of their Central Phoenix brewery to Wren House Brewing Company. The tasting room is now open at 2125 North 24th Street and is pouring a handful of beers including an IPA, a lager, and a pale ale.
- First Watch, Phoenix
A new location of this popular breakfast spot is now open inside the Tomaso's Plaza at 3215 E. Camelback Road in the Biltmore neighborhood.
- Red Hut Coffee, Phoenix
The coffee shop, which was located at 620 East Roosevelt Street, opened in 2013 but closed last month.
- Havana Patio Cafe, Phoenix
Following the closure of the original restaurant in Phoenix last year, the second location of Havana Cafe at 6245 East Bell Road closed its doors earlier this summer. Owner BJ Hernandez tells us she's looking to reopen in a different location by the fall, if possible. In the meantime, she's planning a few pop-up events — we'll keep you posted about details as we get them.
- Mi Comida Ristorante, Phoenix
After more than 20 years in business in Phoenix, well-loved Ecuadorian restaurant Mi Comida Restaurante Latino closed its doors last month.
- Palm Court, Scottsdale
Palm Court restaurant, located at The Scottsdale Resort at McCormick Ranch, closed its doors at the end of June as part of a $9 million renovation of the property. In the fall the hotel will debut two new dining outlets: Kitchen West restaurant and Bar Six40.
- Pinnacle Peak Patio, Scottsdale
On June 28 Pinnacle Peak Patio closed its doors for good. The Western-themed restaurant was known for its no tie policy and its expansive collection of memorabilia — most of which sold at auction later this month.
- Wedge & Bottle, Phoenix
At the end of June, Phoenix's most popular locally-owned cheese shop closed it doors. Owned by Troy and Krista Daily the cheese and wine shop opened in 2011 and closed after a bad spring season.
