Lunch for $10 at Nobuo at Teeter House
A common misconception seems to be that delcious -- as in, James Beard-award winning delicious -- food will never be reasonably priced.
Not true, and we've got proof!
For this week's $10 lunch, we enjoyed the charming digs of the Teeter House at Heritage Square. More specifically, we enjoyed Chef Nobuo's traditionally inspired not-always-so-traditional Japanese cuisine.

We definitely arrived with an appetite and a salad wasn't going to cut it.
Luckily for us, the one thing outside of our budget was a salad -- well, two salads. The warm duck salad at Nobuo $12 as well as the Ebi salad--which has grilled shrimp, rice noodles, purple basil, mint, cucmber, soy glazed peanuts and nuoc cham (aka Japanese dipping sauce). Both sound mighty delicious, but for this budget beat, we ordered the Tonkatsu sandwich priced at $10.
If we had to describe the essence of this sandwich in two words, it would be Japanese BLT. This lunch choice was not something that we would regret. Ever.
Some say that sandwich-making is an art. We even have a friend who thinks his ability to make a killer deli sandwich is his greatest achievement in life. Imagine what these people would say about panko fried pork cutlets, fresh lettuce and tomato on toasted shoku pan with a little wasabi spiced spread that wouldn't quit. In a good way. The Japanese coleslaw added more dimension. Although tasty all on its own, we particularly enjoyed incorporating the coleslaw into each bite of tonkatsu.
The lunch menu also features a few items from the dinner menu, such as okonomiyaki, pork belly buns and the warm duck salad.
That warm duck salad seems to be taunting us. Maybe we'll just have to break our budget for one lunch. Maybe.
