34. Regina Margherita D.O.C. from La Piazza Locale
There's certainly no shortage of places to go for pizza in this town. Phoenix's list of pizza spots even includes two restaurants from one of the best know pizza makers in the whole country. But when we're craving an authentic Neapolitan-style pie, we like to head to La Piazza Locale in downtown Phoenix.
It's a second restaurant from chef Justin Piazza, who made his name at La Piazza Al Forno in downtown Glendale. That charming spot was well worth the drive, but when the chef opened a La Pizza Locale last year we were thankful to have these pizzas right in our backyard.
The Regina Margherita D.O.C. is about as classic and simple as pizzas come, featuring only the highest quality ingredient that money can buy. Rather than tangy red sauce you'll get a light sauce with pieces of San Marzano tomatoes, which give the pizza a barely sweet, fruity flavor. The pieces mozzarella di buffala are like nuggets of cream, while leave of fresh basil give a bright flavor to the dish. Best of all is the flash baked doughy crust that's crisp on the outside and chewy as you get closer to the center.
