Stuck at My Desk: Amy's Light & Lean
What We Ate: Amy's Light & Lean Soft Taco Fiesta
Made with organic vegetables and black beans
The Facts: 220 calories, 4.5g fat (1.5g saturated fat), 560g sodium and 40g of carbs
Why This One: We too would like to be a little lighter and leaner, which means sticking to our new year's resolution of healthy eating.
Looks: As you can see in the above picture, it's a green pile of mush. It is definitely covered in the tomatillo and ranchero sauce as described on the back of the box. It does smells pretty tasty, though, so we will refrain from judging this bowl by its looks.
Taste: Just like the last Amy's Bowl we tried, the Soft Taco Fiesta didn't disappoint. The tortilla was firm enough to hold up to the layers of beans and sauce but still had a nice soft texture. The sauce was super flavorful, just the right amount of tang from the tomatillos with just a slight kick, mild enough for even you wimps who think a bell pepper is too hot. The bottom layer of brown rice was tender and somehow perfectly cooked -- something we can't even figure out how to do at home.
The bowl tasted like real food, which we feel is more important than any single layer. Amy's may not be in the bargain bin of the frozen foods section, but we're okay with paying a little more for something tasty and satisfying. Even at a mere 220 calories, we felt full.
Score: on a scale of 1- 10; we would give this a 8. Worth every penny and not a day ruin-er.
