Congrats, Tempe! You've got your very own nut house now. Ok, we kid. But it is true that about a month ago downtown Tempe added a new candy and confection shop to the mix. (At least it's not another ice cream shop.)
The new kid on the block is The Sweet Shoppe and Nut House, a second location of a Flagstaff candy store that comes courtesy of Blake and Jennifer Rolley. The shop is located at 740 S. Mill Avenue, two doors north of P.F. Chang's.
The bright new spot will be your diet's worst nightmare. There are about a dozen types of fudge -- ranging from a classic dark chocolate caramel sea salt to Oreo peanut butter -- in addition to caramel apples, taffy, gelato, and a variety of old fashioned candies and sodas.
All of the fudge is made in-house and can be purchased by weight for about $14 pound. The shop also runs a special that gives shoppers a free half pound of fudge with a purchase of a half pound.
Other offerings include Jelly Belly jelly beans, chocolate covered fruits and nuts, chocolates, and other confections such as chocolate dipped potato chips, chocolate dipped bacon, and truffles. The shop also carries prepackaged candies and novelty sodas, but the focus seems to be on the more gourmet, handmade offerings.

In that sense, the new spot fills a different niche than Candy Addict, another candy shop located on the north end of Mill Avenue. That candy store carries a wider range of retro and modern candies. Still, it will be interesting to see if Mill really needs this many sweets.
