Wagyu Beef, Firestone Walker DBAs, and More: 5 Things to Eat and Drink This Weekend in Metro Phoenix
Looking for something to put in your mouth this weekend? There's plenty to eat and drink around the Valley, from some of the world's best beef to Italian wines at Scottsdale's The Cove Trattoria. For your planning pleasure, here are a few of events we have on the books.
Miyazaki Beef Dinner and Seminar Friday, September 13
Miyazaki Wagyu beef is arguably the best beef Japan has to offer, sometimes called "the Chief of Wagyu." And lucky for you, the rare treat is now available in the state, and Phoenix's chef Nobuo Fukuda is among a handful of chefs with access to this product. This weekend you can learn about and more importantly, taste, this beef from Miyazaki, Japan raised by farmer Shigemitsu Anraku. Naoto Yonezowa, from Mutual Trading, will also discuss the details of what goes into raising these cows while you enjoy a selection of chef Fukuda's preparations. "Flights of Fancy" DBA Four Way with Firestone Walker Saturday, September 14
Get your beer on this weekend at Handlebar Tempe when the bar hosts their monthly "Flights of Fancy Beer Sampling Party." On this go-round, they've invited craft beer brewery Firestone Walker to share four of their DBAs, or double barrel-aged ales, and an extra IPA. $10 in advance of $12 at the door will buy you a flight of five beers and an order of large fries or a bratwurst. As always, if you ride your bike your first beer is only a penny. You can pre-purchase a ticket online.

Food Truck Caravan "Roses and Lace" Saturday, September 14
This Saturday, Scottsdale's Food Truck Caravan will serve a special "Ate on 5th" dish with a romantic twist in celebration of blooming of fall flowers such as roses and queen's lace. You'll find the Grilled Cheese Truck, JAK Pizza, Luncha Libre, Jamburritos, Great Balls and Sliders, and Torched Goodness from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. on the northwest corner of Fifth Avenue and Goldwater. The Cove Trattoria, a family-owned Italian restaurant in Scottsdale, invites you to join them and Vinifera Imports for a casual wine-tasting event this weekend. From 4 to 6 p.m., a representative of Vinifera Imports will pour samples of red and white Italian wines and provide information about food pairings and more. Tastings of three varietals and light appetizers cost $15 a person. If you decide to stay for dinner following the wine tasting, you'll also get half-off bottles of wine. "Rock the Casbah" Moroccan Cooking class and Field Trip to Baiz Market Sunday, September 15
This weekend, Denise Clayton of Denise Is Cooking is bringing a complete Moroccan experience to her home for pupils of her "Rock the Casbah" Moroccan Cooking class. Students will take a trip to Baiz Market, a unique specialty market, for shopping and exploration of Moroccan culture. Afterward, they'll prepare a Moroccan feast, which will be enjoyed in traditional style: on large floor pillows at a low table. The class with begin at 2 p.m. and costs $45 a person.
