Near landfills and a busy Valley freeway, San Francisco artist Ana Teresa Fernandez created a site-specific art installation called
Oasis, which explores identity, land displacement, and the beauty and destruction of the environment — even as it conjures thoughts about a hopeful future created in community. Presented by ASU's
Project in the Borderlands, in conjunction with
ASU Art Museum and the CALA Alliance, the work's unveiling featured two days of music, dance, and poetic performance within the
Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area located along Seventh Avenue south of Buckeye Road. We've got highlights of
Oasis, from installation preparation to the September 24 and 25 celebrations.
