Art districts like
Roosevelt Row and Grand Avenue tend to garner a lot of attention when it comes to mural art. But locals know the place to go when you need a fix of street art is a strip of 16th Street centered around Thomas Road. That's where Chef Silvana Salcido Esparza
founded the Calle 16 Mural Project in 2010, hoping to build neighborhood solidarity while showcasing the region's culture in positive ways. It's home to murals painted by not only Phoenix-based artists, but also other artists including California-based El Mac and Hawaii-baed Caratoes. Check out a sampling of Calle 16 offerings, plus other nearby murals, here. Then do your own exploring, and stay tuned as we update this slideshow when new street art hits the local landscape.
