SisterBrother

Though it seems especially clever now that it’s descriptive — since there are actual siblings in this Gilbert band — Sisterbrother has actually had their name since before any of the members were blood relatives. What they have always had is a kinship formed through shared love of old-timey music, like John Lee Hooker and Patti Smith, and dedication to creating an intense, almost spooky, vibe in their downtempo indie rock. We’re big fans of Emily Hobeheidar’s occasionally Cat Poweresque vocals and the droplets of bluesy guitar that flavor many of the band’s songs. They’re ridiculously young — Hobeheidar just graduated from high school — but we’re certain this band will hang in there with the veteran acts on this bill. — Martin Cizmar
