Zig Zag Zig Zag is a free man now, and his solo efforts are highlighting what sets him apart from the crews he’s been involved with in the past. It’s already been three years since he parted ways with MC Magic and Dos, the other members of the now-defunct Latin rap trio NB Ridaz. Since then, he’s walked out on his record label to become a “free agent.” Now that he’s on his own, he’s showing that he doesn’t need crutches. Without all the clutter, it’s easy to see that Zig Zag can write solid raps for himself, and he doesn’t need to be pegged into the “Latin rap” genre to make an impact. Instead, he’s been piling up tracks with serious rhymes, spot-on vocals and slick production. Rumor has it he’s toying with the idea of getting the band back together, but if this is what Zig Zag sounds like on his own, why would anyone want to put him back in the box? — Brian Bardwell
