Pierce the Veil is a better band than its associations make it out to be. Yes, the group is currently on tour with crabcore jokers Attack Attack!, and frontman Vic Fuentes got a little too excited about using Auto-Tune on PTV’s new album, Selfish Machines. But the heart of the band’s hyperactive post-hardcore is a strong sense of melody and pop songcraft, along with a surprising amount of respect to Fuentes’ Mexican heritage. Sure, it can get buried sometimes over caterwauling vocals or acrobatic guitar lines, but the point is, these kids can play.
