3 Must-See Movies in Phoenix This August

Equip yourself with snacks and a cardi, because it's time to cool down at the movies. Here are three films you need to see this August.

In A World . . . @ Harkins Camelview In A World... finds vocal coach Carol (Lake Bell) struggling to make her mark on the world of voice acting while striving for fame independent of her hyper-successful voice actor father Sam (played by real-life voice actor Fred Melamed).

Despite men's dominance in voice-over work and her father's lack of encouragement, Carol sets out to compete with her father's protege Gustav (Ken Marino) for a major franchise narration role.

The rated-R comedy, which also features Tig Notaro, Nic Offerman, and Demetri Martin, opens at Harkins Camelview 5 on Friday, August 16.

Blue Jasmine @ Harkins Camelview Think of Woody Allen's new drama Blue Jasmine as his spin on the oft-sad lives of Bravo's Real Housewives -- not that the director gets down in the crazy-eyed, made-up drama dirt that Andy Cohen's built an empire on. Instead, it looks at what happens when a very sad housewife, Jasmine (Cate Blanchett), of New York has her life turned on its spectacularly coiffed head. Her marriage to affluent businessman Hal (Alec Baldwin) crumbles, and she moves in with her less-fancy sister to try to get herself back on track. The film is playing now at Camelview.

Drug War @ FilmBar If you can break away from obsessing over AMC's meth drama Breaking Bad for a few hours, we suggest taking in another crime-thriller about the illicit substance. Johnnie To's Drug War opens Friday, August 23, at FilmBar. In it, meth maker Timmy Choi is caught cooking (an offense punishable by death in China) and has to become an informant to avoid execution. Of course, turning on a cartel isn't quite so simple.
