1. "Lift Every Voice" Black Art Showcase

The Civic Space Park Collaboration is looking for artwork for its "Lift Every Voice Black Art Showcase," scheduled to open the First Friday of February. Show curators say the exhibition, which will take place in the park, is meant to "infuse a cultural aspect to a mostly commercial area, and provide an opportunity for local and regional artists to exhibit their work." Artists are encouraged to submit a piece or a selection of pieces by January 27 at 5 p.m. to [email protected] or [email protected]

2. The Golden Roach Project

If you think you spot a roach at a big name museum in the next year or so, take a closer look. An artist who goes by Kissmiklos is on a mission to smuggle in groups of 14 carat gold plated bronze roaches into some of the most recognized museums in the world. He writes:

The roach as a carrier of the message is not a random choice, and naturally the used material itself has multiple symbolic values. The roach is one of the most disgusting insects, which is capable of getting inside anything, and also earned a doubled fame in public awareness by its imperishability. People treat the roach as a synonym for disgust because of the common repugnance it causes, but at the same time, as an insect which is capable of adapting the most extreme situations, it is a symbol of survival.

So far, golden roaches have been spotted at the Tate Modern, Tate Britain, British Museum, MUMOK (Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien) and Hamburger Bahnhof. Read more about the project here
