For as popular as Mixed Martial Arts have become, there’s something to be said for a pure martial arts competition. There’s a certain art to fighting in a single style that gets lost in the mish-mash of fighting styles you’ll see in a typical MMA fight. For the purists, it may not get any purer than Saturday, August 30’s Bounded Fist Muay Thai at the Arizona Event Center, 1300 South Country Club Drive in Mesa. Known as the “art of eight weapons” for its liberal use of punches, kicks, knees, and elbows (and for being the chosen fighting style of Street Fighter II boss Sagat), Muay Thai is perhaps the most brutal martial art. The event will feature Arizona’s best Muay Thai fighters -- as well as several talented out-of-towners -- battling it out. The fighting will start at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $25 and are available via www.arizonaeventcenter.com.
