Okay, quilters, we know you're out there. And Chandler wants to hear from you.
The Chandler Arts Commission has put out the call to art quilters for their upcoming "Art Quilts XV: Needleplay" exhibition slated for November 5, 2010 through January 15, 2011 at the Chandler Center for the Arts and at Vision Gallery.
Here's your deadline: Friday, September 3, 2010.
The annual art quilt exhibition started as a quaint local quilt show and has grown to include world-wide entries with contemporary approaches to the "craft." Art quilters see this as an artistic medium, not as a way to re-use old cloth make a warm cover for the guest bed (although we think that is still admirable).
The exhibition includes originally designed quilts that often look more like paintings (figurative, landscape, portrait, or abstract) than simple, geometric repetitions.
As the show's title indicates, the theme this year is to focus on the concept of "play." The sky's the limit here, folks, and artists are encouraged to incorporate this theme, however they want to spin it, into their art quilts.
Naturally, there are a whole bunch of guidelines you need to follow in order to complete an eligible entry. But they're not posted on-line (yet).
If you're interested, email [email protected] and they'll send you everything you need to know.
That deadline again? Friday, September 3, 2010.
Now grab your best thimble and get to work.
