In case you’ve been living under a rock (hey, we’ve been there), you’ll be delighted to learn that the musical film version of Mary Poppins was adapted as a Tony-winning stage musical 10 years ago. It features most of the catchy songs that imprinted on your childhood brain -- “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Feed the Birds,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” the Oscar-winning “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” and more -- plus some new tunes, plus jaw-dropping magical episodes from other books in the series.
Everyone’s favorite Edwardian nanny is played by Tricia Hart Ditsworth in Phoenix Theatre’s production, and the famously lanky Toby Yatso provides much of the dazzling dancing as frisky chimney sweep Bert. Directed by the indefatigable Michael Barnard, it runs through Sunday, December 28, at 100 East McDowell Road, with tickets starting at $30. Visit www.tickets.phoenixtheatre.com or call 602-254-2151.
