Beene There, Done That

Sarah Palin may think she can smack her googly grinning face on the map by Going Rogue, but, Sarah darling, it's been done. Besides, it takes more than a Lindsay Lohan-like resignation speech and a book deal to be a true rogue.

Palin’s got a long way to go if she wants to catch up to the likes of fashion designer Geoffrey Beene, who lived by his saying, "The unimaginable always becomes the unforgettable." And, lucky us, we get to see Phoenix Art Museum’s unforgettable "Geoffrey Beene: Trapeze" exhibit, featuring more than 30 garments from Beene’s creative peak in the 1980s and ’90s. The American artist made a name for himself by shucking trendy expectations, instead focusing on geometry-based patterns that provided quality and comfort.

Says Dennita Sewell, the museum’s curator of fashion design, “By working in his own steadfast vision rather than following the trends and whims of fashion's seasonal fads, he is an example of what it takes to have a true vision."

Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: Nov. 7. Continues through March 7, 2009
