Bounce Back

With a healthy Diana Taurasi running the offense and rookie Wunderkind Brittney Griner anchoring the low post, the Phoenix Mercury were supposed to open the season on fire and quickly put last year’s season in the rear view mirror. Instead, Phoenix has stumbled out to a slow start -- including an ugly 22-point opening-night loss to the Chicago Sky -- that has done little to erase the memory of 2012.

The Mercury can take a big step in the right direction on Friday, June 14, when they host the Los Angeles Sparks at U.S. Airways Center, 201 East Jefferson Street. The Sparks are one of the league’s top teams, provided that Candace Parker is healthy (which, as of this writing, she is). Last year, the Mercury could not steal a single win from L.A., so a win on Friday would go a long way toward proving that this year is different.
