Bucked Up

The rivalry between man and bull stretches back to ancient Greek mythology where Theseus faced off against the half-bull, half-man Minotaur on the island of Crete. The age-old feud is kept alive, albeit with less blood shed, by the bull riders of the PBR Built Ford Tough Series, which hits town March 17 and 18.

Steer riding is a rodeo staple, but, since 1992, a band of vet riders has built a following for Professional Bull Riders (PBR) -- holding cattle-clinging competitions all over the country. Chaps-sporting daredevils revel in the wildness of climbing atop a raging bovine that weighs a ton, and hold tight for as long as humanly possible -- mere tenths of seconds can determine a champion like last year’s series winner, Silvano Alves.
