You think you have a handle on where playwrights get their ideas, and then you learn that Buyer & Cellar author Jonathan Tolins drew inspiration from an interior-design book by Barbra Streisand, and you just throw your hands in the air. Apparently, a barn-size basement at Streisand’s home contains her collection of tchotchkes. Tolins thought this private mini-mall could use an employee, so he created Alex More, an out-of-work actor (easy to cast). The one man of this one-man show also plays Streisand, his own boyfriend, and other people. He’s played in Phoenix Theatre’s production (through Sunday, May 3) by Toby Yatso. Showtime Thursday, April 16, is 7:30 p.m. at 100 East McDowell Road. Tickets start at $30 to $80. Call 602-254-2151 or visit www.tickets.phoenixtheatre.com.
