Chairmen of the Board

Okay, so Phoenix isn’t a cultural mecca. Big whoopin’ deal, ’cause we got pop culture, baby, and one of our societal claims to fame -- skateboarding -- permeates everything from music and fashion to film and art. Watch these elements coalesce during the opening of the “DECK” invitational skateboard exhibition. For the second year in a row, the Molten Brothers have brought together more than 200 state, national, and international artists to create works of art from skateboard decks. After the success of last year’s exhibition, the artists have raised the bar; some 2007 participants have incorporated elements such as sound, neon lights, and even surveillance cameras into their once-utilitarian masterpieces. The opening bash from 3 p.m. to midnight Saturday, October 20, will feature live music for your rock ´n’ roll pleasure as well as the première of Tim Vasquez’s skateboard vid NonChalant and skate photography by Matt Price.
Oct. 20-Nov. 2, 2007
