In Italian, cucina enoteca means "food of the wine repository," or in less fancy words "of the wine bar." These small plates are usually enjoyed with a glass of wine or as an appetizer, and best of all, they are pretty easy to make on your own.

This Wednesday, September 11, Sassi Executive Chef Chris Nicosia will demonstrate how the restaurant’s wine bar makes some of their popular small plates including olives, fried cheese, marinated vegetables and stuffed paccheri – a traditional type of pasta resembling a giant macaroni. The Introduction to Cucina Enoteca class will also explore the wines of Veneto (a.k.a. Venice), including Pinot Grigio, Carmenere, and Valpolicella Ripasso.

Get Italian at Sassi, 10455 East Pinnacle Peak Parkway in Scottsdale, from 6 p.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m. The course costs $49 a person and includes three 4-ounce glasses of wine and a one-course meal. For reservations call 480-502-9095 or visit www.sassi.biz.
