It would be an understatement to call last season a disappointment for the ASU football team. For the first eight games, the Sun Devils were considered a lock to make the Pac-12 title game and have a shot at a BCS bowl. Instead, the Sun Devils finished off the season on a five-game losing streak that culminated with the unceremonious dismissal of head coach Dennis Erickson.
This year’s squad, coached by Todd Graham, might not be great, but they probably won’t break any hearts. The Devils lost several key starters to the NFL, so it’s a safe bet there won’t be any BCS buzz around the team unless they really exceed expectations.
The Devils open their season against the NAU Lumberjacks on Thursday. The Lumberjacks, an FCS team, aren't even in the same league as ASU. So anything other than an easy win for ASU would be a stunning upset.
